Butte College underwent accreditation review and had a site visit February 28 – March 3 with a series of accreditation events during that week.
The college is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges, an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. As an institution affiliated with ACCJC, Butte College is required to perform a comprehensive cycle of periodic evaluation through self-study and professional peer review.
The cycle of evaluation requires a comprehensive self-study every six or seven years following initial accreditation and a visit by a team of peers. The cycle includes a mandatory midterm report in the third year as well as any other reports requested by the Commission. All reports beyond the comprehensive study may be followed by a visit by Commission representatives.
